Boletellus obscurecoccineus is unusually elegant for a bolete, most species being rather robust and some distinctly obese.   Up to 55mm broad, bright red, convex, smooth.

• Tubes
  Yellow, adnexed (narrowly attached to stem); soft, with small angular pores (openings to the tubes).

• Stipe/stem
  Up to 18mm wide and 95mm long; tinged yellowish at top, otherwise red with short scattered scales.
