Armillaria luteobubalina is a species common to sclerophyll forests. The size is variable, with larger specimens forming clumps of a few individuals, while large colonies of small individuals may cover entire tree stumps. A. luteobubalina is a very active parasite, spreading underground from infected trees by dark, string-like rhizomorphs which invade the roots of adjacent trees. This fungus, when eaten, causes a persistent burning bitter taste.
