A Field Companion to Australian Fungi by Bruce Fuhrer

This enduringly popular field guide features stunning photos of 138 species of fungi, including approximately 50 Fungimap target species. Brief notes appear with each photo. It is soft cover and compact (good for field work).
For anybody who doesn’t already own this book, and is interested in Australian fungi, it really is a must-buy.
Highly recommended!
Note: this is the revised (2001) edition. The cover photo is different from the 1993 edition, and some species names have been updated, but no extra photographs or text have been added.

Cost: $24.95 (GST inclusive) plus $3.00 postage = $27.95

Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi by Taylor Lockwood

This is not a field guide or a scientific text, but a coffee table-style book, bursting with stunning, full-colour photos of fungi from around the world, including Australia. (Although the cover image is clearly a compilation, the photos inside are all of fungi growing naturally.) The pictures truly stand alone, and will provide much inspiration for anyone interested in fungi. Hard cover, 128 pages.
All copies personally autographed by Taylor!

Cost: $49.95 (GST inclusive) plus $10.00 postage = $59.95

Australian Fungi Illustrated by Ian McCann

Launched at the 2003 Fungimap Conference in Victoria, this new book features full colour photos of over 400 species of fungi. Species are named with both a common name and the scientific name. For each photograph there are brief notes on habitat, substrate if it was not on the ground, and the month in which the picture was taken. The book does not include descriptions.
This collection of photographs provides a good overview of the diversity of Australian fungi, and is presented in a user-friendly format. A great addition to a field naturalist’s library!

Fungi of the South-West Forests by Richard Robinson

A new (2003) publication by the Department of Conservation and Land Management (WA) in the Bush Books series, this pocket-sized book is an introduction to the world of fungi featuring species found in south-west WA. As many species of fungi are wide-spread, the book is likely to be of use to people in the eastern states also.
The fungi are presented in easily-understood groups, with general information, description, and notes on spores, habitat, fruiting time and edibility, together with clear colour photographs. Species are named with both common names and scientific names. An excellent introduction to fungi.

Cost: $6.50(GST inclusive) plus $2.50 postage = $9.00
